UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE CROSS
By Laura E. Shallenberger
Under the shadow of the cross,
I humbly come face to face
With God’s wondrous amazing Grace
Under the shadow of the cross,
My sin is laid open and bare
I can not blame, deny or defend it there.
Under the shadow of the cross,
I recognize my greatest enemy is from within
It is not trials or mistreatment, it is my own sin
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find that for all my sin He did atone
I am reconciled to God and will never be alone
Under the shadow of the cross,
I am no longer a victim, wandering and lost.
I am victorious and found, because Jesus paid my cost.
Under the shadow of the cross,
I get my sanity back and my joy will remain
For I am made brand new, never again the same.
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find the solution to any problem I may face,
A rescuing, redeeming, forgiving, transforming, loving grace,
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find protection, provision and indescribable peace
Here I find for all my anxiety a sweet release.
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find God’s boundless love for a rebel like me
I can now live a life so abundant and free
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find the greatest source of my strength
And recognize that God’s arms of love have unlimited length
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find courage for each and every day
Here all my fears quickly melt away
Under the shadow of the cross,
I am reminded that this world is not my home
I am merely a sojourner through this earth to roam
Under the shadow of the cross,
God is aware of all my todays’ sad losses, deep grief, and painful sorrow
He gives me great comfort that those I mourn here, that loved Him, I will see in my eternal tomorrow
Under the shadow of the cross,
I find victory even over the grave and my death
Because Jesus conquered both with His first resurrection breath
Under the shadow of the cross,
I see the promise of Heaven my eternal home
I have no worries or fears of death’s unknown
Under the shadow of the cross,
There is unfailing love, overflowing redemption and never ending hope
Enough for today, tomorrow and all of my days to victoriously cope
Under the shadow of the cross,
There is room for me and there is room for you
Because God sent his son to die to pay our due
Under the shadow of the cross,
God’s invitation to come to Him is open wide
For He desires all of us to draw near to His side
Under the shadow of the cross,
I am reminded of who and who’s I am
You and I are a child of the Great I AM.
Under the shadow of the cross,
I humbly come face to face,
With God’s wondrous Amazing Grace!
